Evolution Research and FiringSquad teams up
Have you ever wondered what surveys are for (not including the annoying internet pop ups and survey callers)? Survey results are actually vital information in research, especially marketing.
What does that have to do with you, you ask. Well, surveys can help game devs and publishers create and distribute the games you want. Sony has Playstation Underground's Gamer Advisory Panel, Capcom also uses surveys to get first-hand info and suggestions from gamers, and Nintendo sends out questionnaires through My Nintendo.
There are basically two types of research: offline (snail mail and survey callers) and online. Recently, game devs and publishers are opting for the faster and more convenient route of going online.
A partnership between FiringSquad and Evolution Research was announced on January 8. Evolution Research is a veteran of market research and it branched out to create GameSurvey, a gamer panel. The tag team is planning to improve and develop a gamer panel for North America. A gamer panel is a pool of subscribers or respondents that would be sources of info that could be used for various purposes.
That's something that would benefit game developers and publishers - as well as gamers.

Microsoft says 10.4 million Xbox 360 units sold worldwide
Microsoft has announced at CES 2007 that they have sold 10.4 million Xbox 360 units worldwide. Despite the fact that Microsoft is third in Japan, they have still managed to hit the 10 Million point in only 13 months.
This is quite significant because historically, when a console reaches the 10 Million point in sales, they eventually go on to become the console wars winner.
Currently, Nintendo has sold around three to four Million Wiis in just the first six weeks. So the real concern of Nintendo fans is if the Wii will be able to catch up with the Xbox 360 in time. Nintendo fans see this as highly likely. As for the PS3, it's a matter of them shipping enough units to catch up, getting the games out, and keeping their fanbase loyal.
