Get Yourself A "Self"
~ By Jan Tincher Copyright

What does that mean? Well, for one thing it means,
get a life -- but that is too flippant. It actually
means get an identity. Know who you are . . . Decide who you are, then don't let anyone change you. Start from scratch. Look at a blank wall until you see you emerge. Get a paper and pencil and draw a picture of yourself. Then, over to the side, put what you want in your life, in your "self". TIP: Remember, we're starting from scratch. That means you can't come up with excuses for why you can't have something. There is nothing there to begin with, so there is nothing there to stop you. There's no real reason you can't have something. Do you want integrity? If so, put what integrity means to you over to the side. Do you want lots of friends? Draw them all around you. Write what you think it takes to be a good friend on the list you've started over to the side. Do you want happiness? Do you want committedness? Do you want honesty? Do you want respect? Put everything you want on the list over to the side. Look at the drawing you made of yourself. Has it changed a little? Do you see yourself standing straighter? Smiling broader? Shoulders back? Head high? Let's think about your friends. (People tend to judge others by the company they keep.) Are your friends successful? A millionaire once asked Anthony Robbins what it would take for her to become a billionaire. Anthony said something to the effect of, "Hang around with billionaires. See what they do, where they go, who they see." The gal thought, "You know, he's right. I've just been hanging around with millionaires. How can a millionaire show me how to be a billionaire?" Now, you can change that to read anything you want. You want to be a millionaire (or whatever), who are you hanging around with? If you don't know any millionaires/successful people, watch them on TV, read about them, go where they go so that you might meet them. The same for any business you want to be in, any sport you want to play, any activity in which you want to participate. Do you feel you should be a better spouse? Watch faithful, loving spouses in action, and never, never concentrate on the ones who aren't good. They don't even apply here in any way. You want to be good at anything, you only put your attention on the ones that are great at what they do and change your actions accordingly -- if this fits in with your values. You want to be great, start imagining what it feels like to be great. Every week come up with something to incorporate into your new "self". Watch as your new "self" grows and becomes better every day. Project into the future. It's a month from now, and you are looking back on today. Did you get yourself a "self" you are proud of? Great! Never stop working on your "self". Imagine when you
are eighty years old or older, you're sitting
on the front porch in your rocking chair (your
lap top computer is by your side), and you're
looking back on this very day. You decide, "Yes!
I did great that day I made myself a 'self'!" Good luck! Thanks for reading, Jan P.S.
