Rapport -- Is It Easy To Learn?

Is rapport easy to learn? Sure, once you break it down into individual steps . . .

An easy way to start out learning how to gain rapport with someone is to first listen to their tone of voice, then reproduce it in your conversations with them. Here's how you learn to do that:

Pick out a person you see regularly and practice on them.

First, listen to their tone of voice. Is it loud, soft, monotone?

Go home and practice speaking in that tone of voice. Keep monitoring yourself until you have it down perfect.

The next time you speak with them, you will be able to easily speak in that tone of voice. And that's all you are trying to match right now. When you just match their tone, you will feel a difference in your rapport.

Next, pick up on their rate of speed. Are they speaking quickly, slowly, or in between? Do they hesitate while they gather their thoughts?

Go back home and speak in their tonality as you practice their rate of speed.

You will find your thought processes change when you change your rate of speed. You are now thinking somewhat like they are.

The next time you speak with them, speak at their rate of speed, in their tonality, and enjoy the conversation as you start to pick up on how they think.

Now, notice their gestures.

Go back to the mirror and speak at their rate of speed, in their tonality, and use their gestures/body language. You feel a little different again, don't you?

It will be easier and easier for you to gain rapport with people. Just take one step at a time until it becomes second nature.

Thanks for reading,

Jan
