WEIGHT LOSS TIPS

Do you know how to motivate yourself to lose weight?

Pretend you are talking to a little two or three-year-old. What would you say to that two or three-year-old to motivate them? Isn't this going to be fun? Aren't you glad you are where you are? Don't you just love to learn? Picture how great it's going to be.

Keep talking and visualizing until you feel motivated to shed those pounds! It's that easy!

===========================================

Do you ever feel frustrated due to weight gain?

Think for a moment. If you were feeling frustrated right now, what would happen if you smiled? Smile and see.

It didn't change your weight or what happened to make you frustrated, did it? No.

But for a nanosecond you felt better -- or at least better than frustrated.

Now . . . which would you rather feel? Frustrated or happy?

You've just shown yourself that you can be frustrated and still feel happy -- or if not happy, then at least better. If you spent more time smiling, you'd spend less time feeling frustrated. The less frustrated you are the easier it is to lose weight.

Why not smile as you lose weight?

Your brain works in pictures. Visualize being the weight you want.

Do you *wish* you could lose pounds?

Do you *wish* you weighed less?

Do you *wish* you had more energy?

Again, your brain works in pictures. *Wishing* is not a picture. *Wishing* is so far out there, your brain doesn't even recognize it. *Wishing* is just saying something like, *Oh, I wish I could do, have, be . . .*

Picture yourself being the weight you want. See your *wishes* come true.

How do you stop talking negatively about your weight?

1. Pick one or two of your friends and share with them the words or phrases you want to eliminate from your habitual vocabulary AND the new words or phrases you plan to replace them with

For the next ten days, catch yourself using the old word or phrase, and immediately replace it with the new word or phrase. If you catch yourself using the new word or phrase give yourself a pat on the back

Let your friends help by giving them permission to say something like, "Does that really make you blow up like a balloon, or is it just a pound or two you can get rid of?" That helps you go in the right direction, alerts you to the negative wording, and gives you both a pat on the back.

Which of these three do you do most?

Look toward the future.
Look back at the past.
Look at the present.

They all are valuable experiences.

IF you look toward the future with hope.
IF you look at the past and learn from your mistakes.
IF you look at the present and make it the way you want it to be.

Did you know that the words we attach to our experience become our experience?

Our language shapes our experience of life. This is very close to "watch what you wish for", only it's "watch what you continually say or think".

One thing that shows you've said (thought) something once too often is when you think, "I *knew* this would happen!" after what you thought would happen, happened (whether it was good or bad).

HOW did you know this would happen?

You've said "I'm so fat."

You continue to gain weight.

You say when you look at the scale, "I knew this would happen."

Stop saying you are fat. Replace it with something like, "I gained weight but I will easily get rid of it." Or, "I'm overweight, but I'll soon be back at my perfect weight." Always end it with something that gives you hope.

TIP: The most important time for you is right after you overeat. What do you say to yourself? If you say how bad you are with your eating habits, what does your brain have to go on for next time but the same thing? Monitor what you say and think -- so that next time WILL be better.

Most of our thinking is asking ourselves questions.

For instance:

Do I like that? What do I think about that? What will that get me?

If we decide to ask ourselves different questions starting tomorrow, then the answers would be different, wouldn't they?

Questions like:
What IS possible? What shall I do? How can I change that?

This should make tomorrow different. You should feel more in control and better able to lose your weight.

Pretend you are at a crossroads.

Forget your past.

Think about who you are NOW.

Don't think about who you WERE. Think about who you ARE or who you've decided to become.

Feel how that feels. See yourself as you want other people to see you.

Hear yourself speaking as though you are what you have decided to become.

Decide right now to be that person. Make this decision immediately.

Make this decision powerfully. Make this decision permanently.

Now, go out and be that person! Live life to the fullest regardless of how much you weigh at this time!

Do you feel despair because of your weight?

Turn your heart toward love.

What if you can't, you ask?

The answer is, if you can't, you MUST.

If you think you are fat, you have a very good chance of being or getting fat or fatter.

If you think you are slender, you have a very good chance of being or getting slender.

Make a good image. When you have a good image of yourself, it eliminates competition from your life by moving you from competitive plane to creative plane. You make what you are. If you aren't what you want, change it.

What are you? What are you thinking?

===========================================

What are *dominant thoughts*, especially toward your weight?

Dominant thoughts are goals or obsessions that you continually think about. They are what your actual priorities are.

Look around your life and you will see the results of your dominant thoughts. If you don't like what your dominant thoughts have brought you, change them. Life is meant to be enjoyed. Start thinking about enjoying life!

What is Self-Talk?

Self-talk is what you say to yourself. The silent conversations you have with yourself every waking second of your life.

Self-talk comes out in the conversations you have with others.

If you don't like what you say to others, watch what you say to yourself.

What kind of self-talk do YOU have? Is it that you look nice, you are happy, you are enjoying life? Or is it that you . . . well, you know what you think. If you don't like it, change it!

Do you feel helpless when it comes to being overweight?

Did you know that helplessness is a learned response?

People learn to feel helpless by developing patterns of thought that hold them back. Most people don't know that.

If someone said to you that you could learn to dance in five sessions, you would believe them, because you know you can learn that.

Mental habit patterns as well as physical habit patterns are learned by following the very same process. Repetition.

People can learn to be nice just as easily as they learned to be nasty.

Try this. Smile and think good thoughts every hour on the hour until it comes automatically. See how it feels.

The guy who said "Keep smiling!" knew what he was talking about. <Grin>

Do you know when problems occur?

Problems usually occur when there is a gap between where you are and where you want to be.

In other words, as soon as you define a goal of losing weight, you've made a problem because you don't yet have your goal.

Problems are lessened when goals are stated as projects and a map of sorts is made to get to the goal.

That being the case, the minute you make a goal, make plans on how you can achieve it. You bypass the *problem* area instantly. Wa-la. Make your goals, make your plans, lose your weight.

What is a cliché?

It's a phrase which has lost its meaning through constant use.

Is the meaning you give your life and your weight a cliché?

Give it a new twist. See if you can give your life a new meaning.

Do you want to lose weight? Why not mentally say this to yourself several times a day: "I am healthy. I weigh ______ (fill in the blank). My muscles are firm. My complexion is healthy. I am calm. I am capable."

Guess what? Pretty soon that will all happen. Why? Because your brain only knows what it's been told. If you keep telling it this -- instead of what you have been telling it -- things will be OK.

===========================================

Do you know the power of self-talk?

Pretend your brain is on your shoulder.

Now, it can only hear what you tell it. It can't hear what others are telling you. It can only hear what you are thinking and saying.

It doesn't matter what others are telling you if you don't believe them. You filter what they say and that's what your brain hears.

Does it hear you think, *I don't believe that. How can anyone think I'm pretty? What I am is fat.* *I don't think a couple cookies are bad for you.* *I don't have any willpower.* Whatever you are thinking, your brain is listening. What if you said, *I'm getting better every day.*? Your brain has no idea what you are talking about, so it just goes about making you better at the things you do every day. You've just given yourself a chance at a happy life with your perfect weight. Congratulations!
